Connecticut Nurses’ Foundation

The Connecticut Nurses’ Foundation is an organization created expressly for the purpose of preserving the heritage of nursing and advancing both the art and science of nursing.

Through historical research and the awarding of scholarships and research awards, the foundation ensures the availability of nurses committed to a research-based practice, while at the same time advancing the scientific foundation for the practice.  The Foundation is committed to the support of its nursing peers, many of whom could not engage in academic pursuits without financial assistance.

Mission, Vision, and Goals
 Mission

Mission:

The Connecticut Nurses' Foundation (CNF) was organized in 1983 as the charitable and philanthropic arm of the Connecticut Nurses Association (CNA).  It’s mission is to provide developmental and strategic resources essential for CNA to achieve its objectives.  CNF will connect the past, improve the present and anticipate the future of nursing in Connecticut.

 Vision

Vision:

CNF will become the recognized philanthropic nursing organization in Connecticut.

Goals

Goals:

  1. Establish scholarship funds and sponsors for nurses and nursing students in Connecticut with a focus on cultural and ethnic diversity; preparation of nursing faculty; educational development within the profession leading to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN), Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) and Doctorate Degrees.
  2. Engage the public in awareness and understanding of professional nurses and promotion of the health of the citizens of Connecticut.
  3. Increase philanthropy to a level sufficient to support our mission.  Increase and sustain the commitment of individual and organizational donors.
  4. Collaborate with CNA regarding funding for the development of their programs.
  5. Position CNF as a conduit for nursing researchers to apply and receive grant funds.
  6. Preserve and enhance the historical archives of nursing in Connecticut.

CNF’s Charitable Giving Programs

As a qualified charity with 501(c)3 status under the Internal Revenue code, the Connecticut Nurses’ Foundation accepts charitable gifts in a variety forms.  These charitable gifts are tax deductible for income tax purposes.  Many programs can be designed to benefit you as the donor and CNF.

Among the types of gifting available are outright gifts, gifts of securities, matching gifts, bequests, life insurance and memorials and tributes.  Please feel free to contact CNF to learn how your gift to the foundation can provide substantial benefits to you and at the same time help to assure CNF’s financial support in the decades to come.

Connecticut Nurses’ Foundation Annual Campaign

Honor a Colleague

Since the first two $100 scholarships were awarded in 1988, the CNF has awarded over $31,000 to Connecticut nurses and student nurses. We’d like to do more!  We’d like to suggest a meaningful way to honor a colleague(s)…

  • Do you work with or know a nurse whose expertise you admire?
  • Do you know a nurse who mentored you and continues to mentor you and other nurses?
  • Is there a nurse in your community who, although retired, gives many hours to community service agencies?
  • Is there a nurse you would simply like to honor because he / she is a dear friend and valued colleague?
  • Is there a faculty member (or group) or a student (or a class of students) you would like to honor?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, take a few minutes and complete the brief form below.  Send the form with a monetary gift to the Connecticut Nurses Foundation at 377 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT  06450-7160.  We will help you honor that colleague in an upcoming issue of the Connecticut Nursing News by sharing the name of each honoree and the information provided unless requested otherwise.
